News from the Wild: Atmosphere and Soils, Enrollment, and more!

Hello EverWild Families!

In February, we'll be taking our learning UP and DOWN, as we begin to explore the Atmosphere and Soils! Our weekly areas of focus include the Atmosphere, Tracks, Under & Above Us, and Forces of Change. This week, our main focus will be on the Atmosphere. We'll be learning about weather calendars, the difference between weather and climate, how the greenhouse effect affects weather, and even tips on staying warm during those chilly days! We think it will be a fascinating week of learning!

Parent Tip of the Week

We all have that one thing that can disrupt our cool and test our patience when it comes to parenting, right? Well, I think we can all agree that whining takes the top spot on that list. Ugh, the dreaded whine! But hey, let's not get too frustrated. There are reasons why our kids do this, and maybe we can find a way to turn down the whine a notch.

One reason is that they want to see if they can get a different response from us. They're being persistent, thinking that if they keep at it, we might change our minds. In this situation, let your child know that you understand what they're trying to do, but you're not going to budge. Your decision is final, and it's okay if they feel upset by it.

Another reason for the whine is that they're feeling frustrated, mad, sad, disappointed... but they just can't express themselves properly. In these cases, ask your child to pause, take a moment to breathe, collect their thoughts (when they're ready), and then try again to tell you how they're feeling using their normal voice.

Sometimes, kids just need to vent! Venting can feel good for them. They've probably been holding it together all day and now they need to let it out. Let them know that you're all ears and you want to hear all about it. Tell them to share as much as they're willing to, but remind them that it's hard to understand when they're whining. Encourage them to use their normal speaking voice.

Good luck with handling the whine, and if you have any tips to share, we'd love to hear them!
