News from the Wild: Trees, Indigenous Peoples & Fall Fundraising Events!
These Next Two Weeks
What wears rings without fingers and leaves without going anywhere? Trees of course! This week students will delve into the world of trees - from identifying their specific parts, to creating energy through photosynthesis, and examining and comparing different types of leaves.
Next week is all about Indigenous People. Students will learn about the indigenous tribes that call the Treasure Valley home, traditional forms of transportation, and discover various cultural art forms such as petroglyphs and pictographs.
Parent Tip
The first three weeks of school have flown by, haven’t they?
While the adults have been busy creating and maintaining routines, caring for the young people in our lives, and caring for ourselves, our EverWild students have been exploring, wondering and discovering. Your child’s teachers are mindfully crafting a class culture which values care for oneself, care for each other, and care for nature, while your children are exploring personal and class boundaries. (Which you might notice when your child is dressed in their spare clothes at pickup or you receive a message about a scraped knee!) Reflecting on these moments reminds me of a quote by Vincent Van Gogh: “I am always doing what I cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it.”
The power of “yet” is magical, and it is ingrained into our EverWild culture. “Yet” creates room for possibilities, while also softening hard feelings when something cannot be accomplished at this very moment. This space for dreaming, accompanied by the softness of patience, is just what we need as we welcome fall.
