News from the Wild: New Team Members, Spring Break Camp, and More

Hello EverWild Families!

This week we will lift our collective gazes towards the big beautiful sky! We will investigate the Moon's phases, wonder about constellations, ponder the craters that dot the lunar surface, and spend some time with our heads in the clouds! Our imaginations will soar this week.

Parent Tip of the Week

This week's weather forecast calls for some chilly temperatures, brrrrr. Winter has certainly made its presence known lately. To ensure your little ones thrive in the great outdoors, it's important to have them prepared and bundled up for the cold weather. If there's snow on the ground, please make sure your child is dressed in waterproof outer layers, waterproof mittens/gloves, and boots that will keep their feet warm and dry, and don't forget the hats!

Besides your kiddo's time outdoors at school, we highly recommend venturing out as a family this season. We've got a couple of awesome resources to share with you that'll spark some fun and thrilling ideas!

Welcome our newest team members!

Diane

Diane is joining our awesome Intern team from BSU! Originally from Alaska, Diane moved to Boise in 2001, then to Illinois for seven years before returning to Boise in 2016. After raising four children, she resumed her education, earning an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education. Now at BSU, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with certificates in conflict management and leadership, as well as coursework in place-based outdoor early childhood education. With 28 years of experience working with children, Diane is passionate about creating engaging learning environments. At EverWild, she combines her love for the outdoors with her dedication to teaching young children. In her free time, Diane enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, running, skiing, and being active with her dog.

Ellyse

Ellyse grew up exploring the mountains of northeast Oregon, but moved to the Treasure Valley to earn a degree in Environmental Studies from The College of Idaho. Whether it be through backcountry skiing, hunting elk, summiting peaks, or running the trails, immersion in the outdoors has cultivated her love for wild places and shaped the person she is today. With a strong desire to share her passion for the outdoors and help young children cultivate their connection with nature, she was inspired to join the EverWild team. When she is not exploring mountains new and old, you can find Ellyse soaking up family time, cooking in the kitchen, or simply out for a run!

Caroline

Caroline grew up in upstate Corning, New York, generally surrounded by the attitude that winters were for staying inside & hunkering down. Her outlook on the cold months & ‘bad weather’ totally shifted after ski instructing in eastern Idaho & getting lost on quiet, powder-filled trails, reminiscent of Narnia. She’s currently a junior Environmental Science major at Boise State interested in urban planning / walkable cities & the mental health benefits of reconnecting to nature. Outside of schoolwork, she loves to bike as her main form of transportation, walk dogs (especially golden retrievers), run, climb, & help organize events for Backcountry Squatters, a women & non-binary outdoors club. Caroline is constantly thinking about how her college education can be better designed for each student and hopes to bring that mindset into her EverWild classes!

Demi

Demi has returned to EverWild after a long summer and fall season guiding in Alaska. Her passion for nature originated with surfing and boating in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Southern California. Following her enthusiasm for the outdoors, she moved to Boise, Idaho in 2017 during the "Stormageddon 2017” where she fell in love with the mountains and snowboarding. Later moving to Italy she obtained her bachelor’s degree in media communications and photography from Florence University of the Arts. While living abroad she traveled, worked in hostels, and taught English as an au pair for an Italian family. Since 2015, Demi found her passion working with the youth as a swim instructor for kids of all ages and abilities. She has continued working with children as a water polo coach, and school photographer, and now as a certified snowboard instructor at Bogus Basin Ski Resort. While working as a sea kayak guide in Alaska, Demi found her true calling to be working in the outdoors sharing appreciation, respect, and a deep connection to nature and all the beauty it has to offer. She is dedicated to fostering curiosity, education, and meaningful connections with the next generation and the natural world around us.

Gabrielle

Gabrielle is one of our original EverWid educators! She studied psychology and developmental psychopathology at Humboldt State, focusing on holistic child development and attachment. She later went on to earn a teaching credential and taught 3rd grade until the birth of her first child, Ayla. Now she is a mom of two and passionate about helping children develop and grow through curiosity and old-fashioned exploration!
