News from the Wild: Winter Solstice Event, Jobs, and More

Hey there, Forest Families! This week, we are continuing to look at how our forest friends survive in the chilly Winter conditions. Last week, we explored what animals do in the winter, and now it's time to uncover the secrets of our plant pals. We'll be focusing on plant adaptations, perennials, and conifers, and even touching on the importance of roots and soil during winter.

Parent Tip of the Week

In our recent virtual chat, we discussed the significance of your children attending their classes regularly, particularly during the winter season. By doing so, they can develop resilience, maintain a consistent routine, and witness their growth through overcoming challenges. If your child seems hesitant about braving the cold, remember that it doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing situation. You can start by sending them for shorter periods on those extremely chilly or wet days, gradually increasing the duration as they become more accustomed to the weather. Even a short time at school on a particularly cold day can be celebrated as a triumph, an achievement, constantly uplifting your child and reminding them that they are capable of conquering difficult tasks! And I'm willing to bet that those challenging moments will be remembered as quite enjoyable in hindsight! Additionally, consider giving your child some control in deciding if they would prefer a shorter day. Perhaps let them choose how much time they would like to spend at school before checking in with their teacher to see if they are ready to call it a day. We believe that once they are outside, surrounded by their friends and teachers, they may decide to extend their stay a little longer! We adore winter, and we're pretty sure your kids do too!
