Schedule: Tuesdays 12:45-4:15pm

Position Type: Part-Time

Starting Pay: $16 - $18 per hour DOE with opportunity for advancement

About the National Outdoor Learning Alliance & EverWild Forest School:

EverWild Forest School is one of several programs offered by the National Outdoor Learning Alliance (NOLA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Boise, Idaho. NOLA’s mission is to enhance the academic success and overall well-being of students by integrating nature into education. Through initiatives like EverWild Forest School, we provide outdoor-based learning experiences that inspire curiosity, resilience, and a deep connection to the natural world.

Position Overview:

The National Outdoor Learning Alliance (NOLA) is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Outdoor Educator to join the EverWild Forest School program for the remainder of the 2025 school year. In this role, you will help foster children’s love for nature, support their holistic development, and create a safe, engaging outdoor learning environment.

Work Schedule:

  • Tuesdays, 12:45pm - 4:15pm; until May 20th 2025.

    • 30-minutes of class prep time is included each week

  • This position may be combined with the following additional openings:

    • After School Outdoor Educator (Wednesdays & Thursdays, 3:00pm - 5:45pm; ending May 21st 2025)

    • Summer Camp Counselor (Monday - Friday, 8:45am - 2:15pm; May 27th - August 20th 2025)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement the EverWild Forest School nature-based curriculum, focusing on child-led learning and exploration.

  • Create a safe and engaging outdoor environment that fosters children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.

  • Maintenance of a healthy outdoor classroom environment, including hygiene and safety standards, along with daily risk/hazard assessments of outdoor spaces.

  • Collaborate with your co-teacher to manage daily activities and provide a cohesive learning experience.

  • Effectively communicate with children, parents, and colleagues.

  • Embrace all weather conditions while managing and engaging with students.

  • Weekly or bi-weekly travel to the school’s supply trailer to obtain learning materials and safety supplies

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or youth (in an outdoor education or camp setting is a plus!).

  • Certification in first aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain certification).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Enthusiasm for working outdoors and a commitment to fostering a love of nature in others.

  • Be prepared for outdoor activities on a daily basis in all kinds of weather.

  • Ability to create a safe and nurturing program experience for all children and families with strong group management and safety skills.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Adaptable, friendly, outgoing, and excited about EverWild’s mission and values!

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to hike on uneven terrain, lift and carry equipment, and participate in outdoor activities in varying weather conditions.

  • Be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.

  • Stamina and energy to engage in active outdoor pursuits for extended periods.

  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.

Equipment Requirements:

  • A cell phone to make occasional calls to staff and enrolled families; and with ability to download our parent-communication app and be used during class time.

  • Access to a laptop/computer with internet for occasional job-related use including possible virtual meetings. 

  • An active email address to receive internal communications.  

  • Reliable transportation to get to your assigned class location in Eagle, Idaho on-time and in all types of weather.
