EverWild Explorers
Homeschool Enrichment for kids ages 7-10
Program Summary
Curiosity. Confidence. Real Outdoor Skills.
In the Explorers program at EverWild Forest School, children step into deeper adventure as they build confidence, practical outdoor skills, and a strong sense of belonging in the natural world.
Through hands-on experiences in our riparian forest setting, Explorers learn to observe like naturalists, build like young engineers, and collaborate like a true team. Each week blends adventure, skill-building, creative expression, and plenty of time to explore and imagine outdoors.
Over time, students grow from curious participants into capable contributors. They learn how to safely use tools, build shelters, understand local ecosystems, and document their discoveries through nature journaling, art, and mapmaking.
In Explorers, students develop:
Nature awareness and observation skills
Shelter building and outdoor survival foundations
Fire safety and simple outdoor cooking
Introductory tool use and woodcraft
Nature journaling, storytelling, and creative arts
Teamwork and growing responsibility
Because our themes rotate each year, returning students continue to be challenged while new students are welcomed at any time and supported at their level.

After drop-off, students journey with their teachers into a designated natural area nestled in the forest or along the Boise River. Class begin with a brief group welcome and introduction to the day’s theme.
From there, students dive into unstructured play, where they have the rare and essential opportunity to explore, create, climb trees, dig in the dirt, build imaginative worlds, and connect deeply with each other and the land.
After about 90 minutes of free exploration, the group regathers for tea, snacks, and a guided lesson. Our place-based, seasonally informed curriculum uses the natural world as a living classroom to teach environmental literacy, outdoor living skills, and collaborative work.
-
Our classes take place outdoors in all weather—rain, snow, or shine—unless conditions are hazardous (such as extreme heat or cold, lightning, or poor air quality).
Success starts with preparation, and dressing appropriately is key! To support families, we offer a Gear Lending Library with items like jackets, hats, boots, and more.
When it rains or snows, our experienced educators set up tarp shelters and lead high-energy games and activities to keep kids warm, engaged, and having fun outdoors.
All-weather immersion helps children build resilience, practice problem-solving skills, and develop a growth mindset.

What Parents Are Saying
“Children have a chance to immerse themselves in lessons pertaining to our natural resources. They can be creative, ask questions, and move freely throughout class -- all while outdoors. Sunshine provides our child with so many benefits -- and frequently comes home in a better mood. ”
“It's a wonderful experience for a child! Kids have the opportunity to detach from screens and wander in streams. We are so fortunate to live in a place where EverWild is an option.”
“Forest school is a great way of getting kids outside in all sorts of weather, and allowing them to explore the local environment. They learn about local fauna and flora from direct observations. The small group size allow the kids to make strong connections with their peers and teachers.”
