Substitute Teacher

We are searching for an enthusiastic and nurturing Substitute Teacher to join our team at EverWild Forest School.
Our goal is to provide families in Boise, Eagle, and Nampa, Idaho with a nature-based education. Our programs are held 100% outside in all-weather on public land with city permits, and we do not have a traditional school facility.
EverWild Forest School’s mission is to create safe and accessible outdoor education programs that connect children to themselves, their communities, and the natural world through free play, place-based curriculum, and nature immersion.
Compensation: $16 per hour DOE
About the Position:
If a Lead Teacher or Assistant Teacher is absent, Substitute Teachers take over and support the teaching team. Throughout the school year, Substitute Teachers must be available at least 2 days of each week. They work with the Lead Teacher or Assistant Teacher to guide a group of 10-12 students, fostering a love of learning and exploration in each child. We offer extensive training in a supportive learning environment, small class sizes, and opportunity for growth.
Qualifications and Duties:
Collaborative and flexible mindset with demonstrated ability to work in close communication with colleagues and families
Strong skills in empathy and listening with a desire to meet young children with compassion and patience
Passion for working with children one-on-one and in small groups
Openness to learning about risk assessment and class management in a unique 100% outdoor learning environment
Passion for the school's pedagogy and philosophy, which encourages child-led play and exploration while also prioritizing warmth and connection
Ensure a healthy outdoor classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children as well conduct daily risk/hazard assessments of the outdoor spaces.
Must be flexible to work before and/or after school Monday through Friday; summer employment available for continuing employees
Ability to walk and work outside in all-weather, embracing nature-based learning
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Has 2+ years of previous experience in Early Childhood Education or related field of work
Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certification before the start of employment
Knowledge of developmental needs of school-age children

Physical Requirements:
Be prepared and able to withstand cold and hot temperatures, and rainy weather conditions while managing students and engaging with them positively for an extended amount of time (ex: temperatures down to 15°F, temperatures up to 99°F)
Be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs
Be able to hike on uneven terrain
