Summer Camp Educator

Location: Boise and Eagle

Season: June - August

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:45 am - 2:15 pm

Starting Pay: $16 -18 per hour DOE

EverWild Forest School is run by the National Outdoor Learning Alliance (NOLA), a dynamic organization dedicated to providing immersive and educational outdoor experiences for children. Nestled in the heart of nature, our summer camps are designed to inspire a lifelong love for the great outdoors while fostering learning, personal growth, and fun.

Position Overview:

The Summer Camp Educator position begins May 2025 and ends August 2025. Our summer camps run from 8:45-2:15, Monday-Friday. The Summer Camp Educator is responsible for fostering a cohesive teaching team with their partner Camp Educator, assisting with nature-based activities, and helping manage the day-to-day operational activities of a group of 12-14 students with age groups of 4-6 or 7-12. Summer Camp Educators must maintain appropriate, positive, caring behavior when interacting with children, parents/caregivers, and staff. They also must assist with daily tasks (assisting with clothing changes, activity. assistance, toileting, picking up area, etc.), and assist in all transitions of the daily rhythm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Facilitation

    • Prepare and implement lessons from NOLA’s curriculum that align with camp goals and objective

    • Incorporate hands-on learning experiences and look for teaching opportunities during child-led free play

  • Safety and Supervision

    • Maintain hygiene and safety standards in the outdoor classroom.

    • Ensure camper safety during all activities and outings.

    • Adhere to program protocols and emergency procedures.

    • Supervise campers, maintaining appropriate ratios and behavior monitoring.

  • Communication and Collaboration:

    • Communicate effectively with campers, parents/guardians, fellow staff members, and leadership team

    • Provide feedback and insights to camp leadership to improve programs

  • Mentorship

    • Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating enthusiasm for outdoor exploration and learning.

    • Foster a supportive and inclusive camp community where campers feel valued, respected, and encouraged to participate.

    • Provide guidance, encouragement, and mentorship to campers, helping them develop confidence, leadership skills, and a connection to nature.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or youth (in an outdoor education or camp setting is a plus!)

  • Certification in first aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain certification).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Enthusiasm for working outdoors and a commitment to fostering a love of nature in others.

  • Be prepared for outdoor activities on a daily basis in all kinds of weather

  • Ability to create a safe and nurturing program experience for all children and families with strong group management and safety skills

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Adaptable, friendly, outgoing, and excited about EverWild’s mission and values!

  • Compensation: $15-$18 per hour depending on experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to hike on uneven terrain, lift and carry equipment, and participate in outdoor activities in varying weather conditions

  • Be able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs

  • Stamina and energy to engage in active outdoor pursuits for extended periods.

  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
